Another successful trade show season
As the dust settles from Indaba 2016, Fair Trade Tourism is taking stock of its participation at this year’s key trade shows and events.
Both ITB and WTM Africa were hugely successful and saw the organisation raising considerable awareness for the need to benchmark the voluntourism sector and its new volunteering criteria, which will be released in June this year.
Through its partnership with the ground-breaking documentary “Blood Lions”, Fair Trade Tourism has also been advocating for changes in the purchasing behaviour of tour operators where lion cub petting, walking with lions and other hands-on animal interaction activities are concerned. We took part in key panel discussions at both ITB and WTM Africa which helped to address this critical and very controversial issue.
As a bonus, our stand at WTM Africa 2016 won the Most Responsible Stand award.
Fair Trade Tourism was also invited to the highly acclaimed Conservation Lab 2016, held at Spier in Stellenbosch earlier this month. This gave us the opportunity to give direct input into this important think-tank aimed at bridging the gap between conservation initiatives and sustainable tourism across Africa.
Our much smaller and more focussed stand at Indaba 2016 attracted enormous attention and the result was an exceptionally busy and productive show, proving that Indaba is still an extremely important industry event.
Congratulations to our winning clients!
Spier - Gold in the Responsible Tourism Awards - Best Accommodation for Responsible Employment.
!Xaus Lodge Gold - Responsible Tourism Gold Award - Best for Poverty Reduction.

Fair Trade Tourism clients did exceptionally well at this year’s Responsible Tourism Africa Awards, held at WTM Africa 2016. Well done, indeed, to all concerned for your outstanding contributions to sustainable tourism:
