The business has a written policy on tipping

What does this mean?

  • The business needs to have a policy on tipping which clearly states how tips are managed and distributed amongst employees.
  • Tipping is not necessary only financial, but refers to all gifts, both financial and non-financial, physical and non-physical that may be handed to employees either as a gift or in appreciation for services rendered.
  • Once finalised, the policy needs to be clearly explained to all employees.

What do I do?

  • It is strongly advised that the tipping policy be developed in conjunction with your employees as it is ultimately they who will be affected.
  • An example of a tipping policy can be found in the Resource Centre.
