The business is aware of the development needs of the community through means of a consultation process with them

What does this mean?

  • The business must consult with the community regarding their development needs before implementing any development actions.
  • Community refers to the broad range of people and businesses that the business interacts with and is not limited to communities of specific cultures or in specific locations.
  • Businesses must therefore identify key community role-players with whom to consult regarding development initiatives; including employees and their families in the areas where they live, community leaders, local government authorities, local businesses and any other affected groups.

What do I do?

  • Make a list of relevant community stakeholders to consult
  • Hold meetings to share information and align development plans where possible, including determining priorities and common issues.
  • Circulate and keep minutes of the meetings held with community stakeholders.
