The business is in compliance with all legal requirements for access to information and transparency

What does this mean?

  • Your business is required to develop and submit a PAIA manual to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) as per the requirements of the Promotion of Access to Information Act.
  • The purpose of this legislation is to promote a culture of transparency, accountability and good governance both in the private and public sectors.
  • The business needs to make this information available publically as well, perhaps through the website.

What do I do?

  • Go to the SAHRC website to learn more about PAIA:  On the website, go to the PAIA tab and click down to ‘Compliance with Section 51’ for more guidelines.
  • Quick PAIA is a very useful website giving information on the PAIA manual and how to compile this.  They will also compile a manual and submit this to SAHRC at a cost of R499.00.
  • The PAIA manual that you need to compile is called a Section 51 manual.  In the Template Portal you will find a generic one that you can use to create your own.  There is also a document there with useful hints on how to complete it.
