The working environment is healthy and safe

What does this mean?

  • The best method to determine whether the working environment is healthy and safe, is to do the H&S risk assessment as described above.
  • The following factors should at least be considered: clean drinking water, clean and functioning ablution facilities, asbestos roofs, open bodies of water, sufficient lighting, sufficient heating, ventilation, noise levels, etc.

What do I do?

The MyWage website gives a good overview of H&S and the duties of the employer and of employees: http://www.mywage.co.za/main/decent-work/health-and-safety-at-work/health-and-safety

The OHSA should also be consulted as it is very clear on what is considered a healthy and safe working environment.
