There is a system for recording all workplace accidents

What does this mean?

  • The first aiders and H&S representatives need to be made responsible for recording all workplace accidents
  • This includes any injuries that occurred at work as well as recoding any illnesses that could have an effect on others or compromise the hygiene of certain work areas.
  • In the event of serious injury or even death, a Workmen’s Compensation form will need to be completed and submitted to the Commissioner.
  • Another important piece of legislation to refer to in this regard is the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.

What do I do?

  • In the Template Portal you will find a sheet that can be used to record workplace accidents.
  • When recording accidents you need to describe what happened, the date it occurred, who was involved and what actions were taken.

The form to be completed for Workmen’s Compensation (COID W.Cl.2) can be found in the Resource Centre.
