Madi a Thavha Mountain Lodge

Madi a Thavha, meaning “water from the mountains”, is set in a beautiful and quiet valley of the Soutpansberg Mountains of northern Limpopo in South Africa, only a 10km drive from the centre of the town of Louis Trichardt. With warm hospitality, excellent food and stylish accommodation, the lodge is a celebration of the art and culture of the local Venda, Tsonga and Northern Sotho people. It also offers exciting village tours, creative activities and superb cycling, hiking and birding opportunities.

The lodge houses a permanent exhibition of the art and crafts of local artists and the workshop of Madi a Thavha Design. It is an excellent base from which to explore the Venda and Tsonga culture, myths and legends and to discover unspoiled nature of the Soutpansberg and Limpopo valley.

The accommodation consists of guest houses with self catering facilities and guest rooms. The farmhouse includes a lounge and dining room, open plan kitchen, reception, craft shop, verandas, a refreshing swimming pool and garden.

Madi a Thavha empowers its staff through skills development and ongoing training in areas such as sewing, craft production, business skills and HIV/Aids awareness, to name a few. The business is extensively involved with its community, in particular through arts and crafts mentoring programmes, while the entire Madi a Thavha team participates in on site environmental education activities.
